Law Enforcement Educational Training

Project Summary

The law enforcement community must have the technical expertise to properly investigate electronic crimes. Leveraging the unique relationship between the ISTS and SANS this project has four main goals: to educate law enforcement personnel in electronic evidence procedures, cut the cost of training for local law enforcement, encourage standardized incident handling procedures, and facilitate information exchange. Although ISTS is not a training organization, IRIA will survey third-party courses, and bring the best courses to the attention of computer-crime investigators. IRIA will develop virtual curricula, sequences of third-party courses targeted toward law enforcement personnel according to the type of their investigations.

Published Law Enforcement Training Course Review report and disseminate to law enforcement.

More than 150 organizations were reviewed. Of these, 9 were selected for further survey of existing system- level courses, and to determine which courses were suitable for a law enforcement audience.A web page has been developed for this matrix and published on the ISTS website.
