Mustaque Ahamad

Dr. Mustaque Ahamad currently serves as the Director of Georgia Tech Information Security Center (GTISC). He is a professor in the School of Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA. In his twenty plus year academic career at Georgia Tech, Dr. Ahamad has led numerous research projects and educational initiatives. His research interests span distributed systems and middleware, computer security and dependable systems. He has published over one hundred research papers in these areas and has advised over twenty doctoral students. He has also served on program committees of numerous conferences and has received awards for his research papers. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and numerous information technology and security companies. Dr. Ahamad led the effort to create a broad and comprehensive information security curriculum and the graduate degree program in this area at Georgia Tech. Based on the educational and research programs in information security, GTISC has been designated as a National Center of Excellence in Information Assurance Education-Research (CAE-R).

As Director of GTISC, Dr. Ahamad has helped develop several major research thrusts in areas that include security of emerging converged communication networks and applications, identity and access management and security of healthcare information technology systems. In his current role, Dr. Ahamad works extensively with local and national industry leaders to develop effective relationships to address the challenges associated with securing networked information systems. Dr. Ahamad received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1985. He received his undergraduate degree in electrical and electronics engineering from the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India.
